White was the colour of the day on this outing along agriculture roads looking for winter birds. A flock of Snow Buntings were quite cooperative when they first responded well to audio, then stuck around a while for seeds and cracked corn sprinkled over the snow banks. Photographed from the comfort of my car (remember to turn off the heat and open the windows well ahead of time when doing so in cold temperatures!).

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, about 80% FF, cleaned up the eye (these guys have the dullest eyes ever), selectively pulled out some detail in the snow via "shadows/highlights" slider in PS.

    Dan, cloud nine here!

So creative man, I have to say. Sometimes we get stuck in 'boxes' and this is just different and pretty.

The feel, the comp and the color pop with the high key feel are superb. I'm a big fan of this one, well done!

    Daniel:

Very nice and seasonal too! Enough texture in the foreground to ground the bird, but still a very ethereal look. Good choice on the frame

    Cheers

Nice shot Dan, if possible I would try to bring out a little more detail around the lores area.

Whenever I see a snow bunting in the snow I think of you!
I remember when I first joined BPN in 2011, one of the first images I saw on BPN was a snow bunting you had posted.
I was blown away. I remember thinking I would get a picture like that someday...and I still haven't! It is so hard to get a superb white on white image.
Lovely image Dan. Love the snow on the bill and the details in the snow below,
    Gail
