Immature Bald Eagle "Junior" on one of his first flights
We watched this guy from a hatchling in the nest to his first flights. I was lucky enough to be there on a day with light. Use of a tripod for these shots is almost impossible because of the rapid change of location (only seconds allowed). To make matters more intersting, the background really tries to confuse auto focus. Used "one-shot" mode - center focus.
I have had the XTi for only a year - I now lust for the 40D or better yet the Mark III :)

Reason: lost the image
Doing well Terry Lot of good things going on here Got the bird in focus despite the bg Good exposure Did not mentioned which exp method you used but manual will give the most consistent results
Would suggest trying to get the bird moving toward you This is going away If you can not get a good bg to shoot might go for a blur in this situation Might come up with a killer image !!!
Thanks for your suggestions, Al. I typically use the "Av" mode for exposure - adjusting the ISO to get at least 1000/s to stop the motion. I will try Manual exposure next time - my concern is no time to fiddle with camera - these opportunities last no more than a few seconds, if that.
