I took this image in Salisbury State Reservation, near the coast.
This is a subspecies of the Savannah Sparrow, showing up on the east coast only in winter.
    Nikon Z7, Nikon 200-500mm @ 500mm, f5.6, 1/4000, ISO640.

    Comments appreciated.

Hi Ilija, nice bird in environment here. It looks maybe like a dead or winter juniper?

The head and eye feel soft to me. It seems like the juniper just to the left of the subject is super sharp comparatively, do you agree?

Otherwise, you might consider burning or cloning the bright bud on the left side.

    TFS.

    Ilija:

Interesting about the sharpness. I agree with Brian's assessment, but parts of the bird looks like it has been over sharpened to compensate, resulting in that "crunchy " feel to the feathers. Particularly noticeable on the back and crown.

    Like the colors and comp.

    Cheers

Love the environment and the spotlight effect in this frame. TFS

Thank you everyone for the comments. Interesting about the sharpness, I really sharpened it just a bit. I guess needed to do it only on the head. In any case, here's the original image, with no post-processing at all. I just cropped and saved from the camera raw NEF file.

A great-looking scene. A great (sub)species too! I love the brownish tones throughout, and the hint of blue in the BG look very good with those browns. Well-balanced comp. It does appear that critical focus was just ever so slightly not on the eye. Not enough to spoil the image, but enough to notice. Extra sharpening there (the eye) will help indeed. Very nice overall despite that!
