    Default Working the Light

This Mallard hen was captured this morning at the local bird sanctuary . It was a cold, clear morning, but the birds were fairly active. The lake has a steep tree covered hill on the east side, so as the sun comes up, the lake is nicely illuminated, but the hillside is heavy shaded. It was fun working the light to get unusual lighting effects. The sun was behind and to the birds right side, and the fresh snow provided nature's best fill reflector.

Post cropped a bit from the top for comp. LRCC and PS 2020. Softened some of the trees in the background with the clone stamp.

Advice and comments always appreciated .

I like it a lot...every shot does not need to be DFC light,, in fact, not many are.
I might brighten the face just a bit if you can., Looks cold and moody.

Randy, don't see a rich blue bkg like this that isn't water. It's different and moody.

She's definitely sharp and I like that we get a peak at the speculum.

Enjoy the landscape crop and comp. Nice to see a flight frame from you.

Love, love, love the light and shadow on this one. BG works well with lighting to set a very moody frame. TFS

She's so pretty and good EXP control to capture this moody frame. I like the sharpness and the pop against that terrific blue sky. Hey Randy, this isn't a loon! LOL Bet you cant wait to get out o the water when they return...

I do like the light and BG. Very nice. I wish the wings were at full downstroke here

This is so nice! Love the lit up under wing, the blue BG and the play of light and shadow. No nits from me!

Thanks everyone. Appreciate your opinions and comments. Yes, I need to update my copyright brush!

Arash: re: wing position. I must have lazy mallards, as I almost never see a full up or full down position. Take off is about the only time.

    Cheers

It works very well! I love the light bouncing off the snow to fill the underside. Despite the lack of visible snow in the image it very much feels like a winter scene.
