    Default Long-billed Thrasher

A new one for my collection! I'd seen this species on all my previous trips to South Texas (10?) over the years,
but I'd never had decent photographic opportunity at it until last week.

Obviously a set-up (at the Laguna Seca Ranch). I kinda like the flat light here. I think it's kinda painterly.
And yeah, the perch is a bit overwhelming, but I like the bird's placement how it divides up the frame.

    Dorian, stunning from this seat.

Perch with much character, super lighting and a gorgeous, sort of Southwestern feeling bkg gradient. Detail is mega and love the framing.

Looks like a sweet place to visit....

    Well done man!

excellent frame, the moss on the perch is a plus for me. head angle and details are great, if mine I'd tones down the whites on the moss a bit, look a bit bright on my screen. soft light rendered the scene nicely

Much prefer the tonal variation in BKG compared to the plain 'studio' backdrop here Dorian, offers more reality to the set-up. Agree on toning down the HL's and brighter tones. Chest plumages looks a little flat, perhaps it's due to applying Topaz to a baked Tiff?

Great look at this species. He is a bit overwhelmed by the perch, but it makes for nice framing. I like the flat light and plain BG. Yes to toning down the whites on the perch.

This is nice but seems a tad thin to me. I would boost Sat. just a tad.

Hi Dorian an interesting looking bird .
Perch works well with all the lichen and moss ??
I think the image could stand some more depth in the HL and 1/4 tone spectrum .

    Nice one TFS Andreas

Hi Dorian, terrific bird and perch, yes to adding more color and burning the highlights on the perch. I would wish that tail was in focus. And, again, must be the Topaz application bc this is not your usual IQ. Nice to see you venturing out of your workflow but something isn't working here.

Beautiful image Dorian! I like the pose, IQ, light, composition and complimentary BG.
