Took this last August in Nd slough. Was a really special morning with lots of birds that I sort of screwed up waiting for the fog and haze from the wildfires to lift. Should have pushed my ISO more. I figured I had plenty of time but my birds left unfortunately. This was my fifth edit kept coming back and trying something different. Originally had to
much oranges and saturation. I know this is too large in the frame for some, just personnel preference. Shot in vertical. Decided not to clean up the bill, why look at the feet. Processed with Dpp 4, Topaz noise, I think been a few weeks. Photoshop.

Fantastic low POV and details. Love the pose and that muddy foot and beak. Framing looks good for me. TFS

Great low POV and I like the walking stride.
I think you could bump up the saturation a bit or vibrance.
The eye looks great with good details.
I like the mud on the bill-tells us he has been busy foraging.
The mud and mud BG are true to the scene but I would have love a bit more color somewhere!

Looking good here Kevin....yes, the feet could have been sharper, but I think you got some great detail on the bird. Nice pose, POV and HA. I like the colours throughout. Maybe my monitor, but is there a slight blueish cast

    Hi Kevin,
I think the comments above would be helpful if you choose to look at the blueish cast and add more "color", it looks flat to me. Usually on the East coast they are more brown in color. I like the muddied feet and the HA.

This is another edit I did but it has more oranges in it and still some blue cast. Tried several methods to rid the color cast. Seems like I do it one way get more blues and then another way increases the orange cast. Hopefully this is better.

Thanks Gail I agree it was a dirty background and it seems no matter what I tried always had a color cast. I had this smoky haze that morning and every frame on other birds I seem to have trouble processing.

Your right Will it does have a blue color cast. Other edits I seem to get a orange cast just couldn't rid the color cast .

    Boom Kevin! The repost rocks!

I'd take it just as is in that version. Great job getting low, separating the FG an BKG from the plane of focus.

    Superbly sharp and well processed!

Hi Kevin, it all stems from getting the WB right before you start anything within PP, it's that simple, in the OP the Temp needs warming up and reducing the Green, but the RP is far better.

The POV is perfect and nice framing, with some nice space all round. Yes, more SS to freeze the motion ie in the legs and you had ISO on your side, so going to 1/2000 wouldn't have hurt, you need to break this hesitancy. DoF looks about right as the bill to chest plumage is all sharp, which is nice, but the white look a bit lacking, think you could get a little more out. Adding a Mid tone Curve just adds that 'pop'.

Yeah, repost looks really nice, Kevin. It shows the brown back very nicely. Low angle is great, and the raised foot adds just enough action to add interest. Exposure and details on the bird look great. I especially appreciate the act of getting dirty to get frames like this.
