So, of all the DIF (duck in flight) shots I've captured in recent weeks I hadn't pulled off a full frame copy that I've loved with all the right pieces. But I was pretty jacked to get this one, captured Saturday morning on the South Platte River.

    Canon R5
    600mm
    Handheld
    ISO 1250
    f6.3
    1/6400

LR and PS, DN. A little bkg blending, not much else by way of trickery.

    Brian:

Perfect timing, sharp, good angles in frame and comp.

I might try a version with -1/3 to -1/2 stop exposure, but that is purely personal taste.

    Cheers

    Another beauty.
    Perfect Bg and wing position.
I would like to see this at -1/3 exposure.
    Otherwise, no nits from me!

Congrats, always rewarding to get these.... exposure and color look right on.
If anything the white patch is pretty muted.. it is full on duck glow white and tough to keep in good light but
yours is maybe a tad on the dull side.

Well well well, what can one say......This is looking fab Brian....Love it. Great feather detail and sharpness looks spot on. The colours throughout are beautiful....And, what a flight pose. I also like your chosen crop....I wouldn't change a thing.

Randy, Gail and Dan. Thank you very much for taking time to comment. I grouped your replies together as your critiques all involved exposure and/or whites, which I think are totally valid.

What may be worth noting here is that in viewing my final processed image, I felt like it needed a slight bump in exp so I went back and lifted exp about 0.2. Interestingly, that almost exactly coincides with your requests.

And as far as whites Dan, I did not clone or 'add' any detail on that patch. I used a different technique (Multiply and a little contrast on a lum mask) for those whites to bring out existing details. I understand how the gray spots could make it come across a little muted.

Doesn't get any better! A really sweet frame with the bird nicely matching - but still standing out from - the background. Awesome exposure and details.
