    Default Painted reflection...

    Hello all,

Here is a Painted turtle lounging under the sun at the Carbonneau's marsh in Quebec near Sherbrroke...

At the Brittania Park in Ontario, they were fleeing if you approach them within 100 feet!!!!

This one was more relaxed (at the photograph's joy :-) )...

    Any comments?

    Thank you!

    Hi Pilonm,
the turtle pose and exposure look very good. Unfortunately there are many distracting bright element in the frame especially in the reflection with the brighter branches coming out the turtle's back. You also have the same issues near the left edge and front. all these detract somewhat from the image overall.

I like the pose with one leg extended and one tucked out of sight. The reflection is very nice as is the rather soft light. You might tone down or remove the bright green floating duckweed in the foreground. Other than that, I don't find the reflected habitat in the water to be particularly distracting. Well done.

I like the image as is. The reflections of the reeds in the water do not bother me; its part of the habitat...

    Michel,

With some minor clean-up/cloning as suggested by Roman and Steve, you can greatly strengthen this image's appeal. The turtle and reflection are great. Next time in a similar situation, but sure to move around a bit and watch how small movements on your part affect the relationship of your subject with the BG and its other surroundings. Look for merges, bright spots, extraneous elements at the edges, etc.

    Hi Michel,
I like the pose and the "spotlight" on the shell. The reflected reeds are a bit distracting but more so for me because of their non-vertical alignment rather than the fact they are there.

Thank you all for your pertinent comments...

I agree with you: some elements are distracting but as Robert mentionned I prefer to improve my pictures by choosing the right angle on the terrain than to modify it using Photoshop... Also the problem to continuously remove natural elements with PS which seem distracting at first will eventually lead to have a portfolio of similar pictures... That's why I restraint those kinds of manipulations to the minimum...

    Thanks again :-)
