Default Gannet on the way back home ....

    Hi folks ....
the image was taken back in 2014 on Helgoland . Lots of traffic at this time of the year around the large rock , as it was breeding season of the Gannets . Here you can see that they carry everything that might work , back to the nesting site .
The red plastic band was tangled around the sea weed , as you can see . This plastic stuff is also causing some problems as sometimes the birds get caught in it and die.
Personally I am ok with it as a element in a picture , as part of a nature document .... not that much from the aesthetic POV !!!!!
Wish for a slight head turn ....

I like the sharpness, exposure, details and BG compliments the eye perfectly. The nesting material makes the image interesting. The red one looks like a party ribbon!

Andreas, processed beautifully as is customary for you. Nicely done there. Might have been a little more dramatic going into the light perhaps?

As far as the subject, I agree with Dan that the wing position makes it less desirable. However, I do wonder what a more panoramic crop might do to it? How far back does the ribbon go? That might be something to let tell a story if you can keep it in the frame and sort of extend back well past the bird. Just an idea.

Thanks folks for your comments , much appreciated .

Brian ... the red rope was cut in the shot , otherwise I hear you about the cropping as a good alternative . Regarding the wing position , I am more than ok with them as is the natural pose when cruising along the cliffs . And to be honest, I do not care that much in most cases about the wing position in general .... unless the pose is really awkward . Might come from the fact .... these are all chicken , and I do like them in the oven . Avian is just a side product as you might have understood in the mean time , so my expectations are not that high on that front ... I care more for color and tone .

    Cheers Andreas
