Although old out of date technology, I got 12 fairly sharp frames of this hawk
flying at me against a mottled tree/brush BG with this combo.

Tough to track a bird coming at you head on. You and the combo did well. I love the BG.

I'd be happy with this one Dan...haven't purchased the 1.4x TC yet, but it looks like it doesn't do too bad with bif. Tail and left wing show some noise. I might tone down the bird's left eye area. Love the BG.

Interesting pose here, and I like the mottled BG. The light was not your friend as it is off-angle and harsh - but birds don't always follow protocol.

Dynamic pose, not the easiest flight angle to get sharp so kudos on that front. I'm not familiar with this species but I'd be tempted to darken the eye little - looks very bright to me

I like how the hawk fills the frame, fanned tail, BG and sharpness. I too would take some brightness out of the eye. Nice image Dan.

looks good from here needs a bit taming the facial highlights and NR on the tail, I wish the RTH was lower in the frame and eye level with you

BTW, Nikon AF is still the best DSLR AF around, it was the pinnacle point of DSLR's when it came out and still is.
