The BKG I personally find, is very distracting here John, I might just darken it all down. In addition, the three dark 'blobs' in line with the head and lighten orange area, need to be removed/addressed. Like the alert pose, forward facing ears and raised front leg. Nice to see detail in the snow, the trailing snow off the hoof is a cool touch.

Not much could do about the background, the viewers eye is drawn to it . Like the pose of the deer and the snow as Steve mentioned especially behind the raised foot. Has the same look as a pointing dog, neat. I have a little bit of a red cast on the deer. TFS

Hi John ... nice one !
Neat walking pose with ears facing forward , looking great . The lifted foot and the kicked up snow is making the slight difference here .
I am fine with the BG , for sure it can be better .... but was not in your hands .

    TFS Andreas
