    Default Gannet head shot

Hi all ... still digging in the depth of my archive .

Another image from Helgoland back in 2014

Wish the head turn was very slightly turned away , to get the bill razor sharp .... or I should have closed the aperture a bit more . But then .... oh the ISO would have gone up even more , so I have to live with it as is .

    All comments welcome ...

Love every inch of this canvas. Soft light and colors are beautiful and personally don't need bill tip in sharp focus. TFS

Lovely simple headshot - would have been nicer to have had the head slightly more angled towards us and not worry about the bill- it's the eye that matters for me, and the way the eye is 'sat' in the head of a gannet means you sometimes need a slightly different shooting angle with them than other birds require. If you wanted more DoF then you had plenty of shutter speed to work with, no need for 1/2000th here for me. Details great as expected

I, on the other hand, could not give a rat's *** about the bill tip. I'd rather have this engaging head angle than a perfectly square (totally boring) one. As Mr. Roach says, this is superb as is. I think it would be even better with a bit off the left and the top.

Stunning Andreas. Everything works really nicely for me - you're super at finding all available detail in your files and the eye capture almost gives a look into its soul...

I love your super high standards man. Forget about angle here, just enjoy this one!

Thanks Artie for sharing your thoughts about the image and your respectful extra comment ... regarding my wrapping up in details and miss the beauty of an image .

I can just only answer in the same respectful way ... and ask you back !!
Why are you and others removing stuff from well captured images i.e. branches that not even cross the subjects , cleaning up dirty bills or other minor imperfections , adding cut off wing tips , adding canvas .... and also suggesting this edits to others .Just today you cleaned up Daniels Owl image .... ! All for sure at times , like you said above .
What is the difference to my view ??? I am not doing this clean up business .... to my images . And barely suggest it to others ....

    Respectfully yours Andreas

What a beauty. That background is to die for. Great frame.
