    Default pied-billed Grebe

    Attached Images Attached Images

dusting off my D500 and 500 PF which had not been touched for a while, I snapped a couple of frames in a local park. The grebe had just emerged from an unsuccessful dive, it was totally wet which is a challenge for sharpening, I tried my best to avoid making it look over sharpened!

D500 500 PF ISO-3200 f/5.6 at 1/640 sec (not a lot of light) hand held processed with C1P.

Probably the cutest grebe species out there. Nice and sharp, you achieved the balance you were looking for. Often a challenge in where to cut off the reflection, especially when it is not all there in the original file. Good head angle. Did you need to reduce some blues? I often find that is the case with these types of colours and light combos.

Ditto all the positives above. I almost fainted when I saw the thumbnail. The bird was not flying and it was not a harrier!

    hi Dan
I did, I selected the grebe then used hue/saturation tool and reduced blue saturation by 20 pts.

Lovely frame with great HA and detail. At first I thought it looked a little too dark and too large in the frame, but after looking a few more times it has grown on me; now it looks just right.

Quite nice frame of this grebe. You must have been close these are pretty small birds.
