Yesterday late afternoon at a local grassland preserve I found this TRHE just on the edge of a field hunting for Voles. After about 10 minutes he decided to take off for another location. Image was captured a micro second before liftoff. C&C welcome.

The take off pose is nice. The setting is different from the ususal water. This looks like a immature great blue heron.

Thanks. That was my first instinct when I saw the heron in the field, John. Not sure why I thought it might be a Tricolored Heron other than wishful thinking.

If one of the moderators would please change the title to Immature Great Blue Heron. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Geoffrey,
I changed the title for you.
    Classic take-off pose.
Eye and neck could use a bit of sharpening.
    Nice view of the underwing.
Compwise, I might take a bit off the right hand side to move the bird to the right of the frame.

I am not feeling this one, the bird is lost in the BG and it is soft too, plus the shadows. if the wings were fully stretched and it was sharp ... sorry Geoff this one isn't working for me

I like the processing and the position, nothing can be done about the background and I don't mind it at all. the thing that bothers me most is the head - is it sharp??

Thanks everyone. No excuse for the eye and neck not being sharp.
