Whoa, that is close and you took full advantage. Like the framing, details and BG. TFS

I know Ash Canyon and have seen this species there several times. Composition and detail are lovely, but you really needed a different head angle to light up that bright purple gorget. He's looking slightly away from us, and tight headshots really need to have super engaging head angle to connect. Tongue is a nice touch though!

Nice image, I would lift the darker tones a little, also there is a faint halo around the bird - more noticeable around the chin and bill.

Very cool! I agree with Dorian in regards to head angle and light for the gorget, but I'd be quite happy with this too.

    Kurt, cool up close frame.

Great bkg and fun with the tongue out.

Curious how big a crop here?

Very nice tight view and perfect for the theme.
I did not know that the gorget would light up as I have never seen this species IRL so I enjoy the image and the details.
The comp can be tricky but I this this works well.
    Tongue is a great plus,
    Gail

Going to have to agree with what has been said already. But you can't beat this head shot.

sweet frame with lots of close up details, I also wish the head was just a tiny bit angled towards us
