Default Sacred Kingfisher in flight with prey

This is the first time I've ever got a Kingfisher in flight...they're so fast. Unfortunately it was not as close as I'd like but I'm quite happy with it considering I had to crop in post.

    D500/500PF, 1/3200th sec. f5.6. iso800, manual mode, HH. Cheers.

Real nice killer BG, framing, as usual you handled light well with EXP, prey adds to interest and focus spot on. Yes, crop takes a little from IQ but I love it. A definite keeper till you get closer... TFS

Hi Paul think you did very well to get this bird in flight !!
Superb pose , killer BG and the prey is taking this even a step higher !!!

Colors looking good to me ... Have you blown the HL in capture ?? As the " whites " are looking a bit recovered ??!!

Please do not forget to save your images with a color profile embedded

love the dynamic pose and the prey, was this a large crop or underexposed? details look a bit coarse to my eye, otherwise perfect

I think it is a very good shot but I can't help but feel you have given the image a bit of a beating up during processing, sometimes less is more (sorry if that is irritating but I think it could help).

David: Thanks as always...agree with the IQ/crop outcome. Now to wait till the next opportunity!
Andreas: Thank you for the feedback/comments. I did reduce the highlights a tad, but the highlights were not blown in capture. RawDigger shows perfect exposure on the raw file. I always convert my files to srgb before posting. The colour profile I use when editing in camera raw is "camera standard". I'm unsure what you mean by saving the colour profile?
Arash: Thanks so much for your feedback. Yes, this is a large crop (my original crop has more room around the bird, and maybe the iq is better). Cheers.
Jonathan: Thank you for the feedback. My only processing was minor adjustments in ACR, and Topaz DN to the tiff file. However, you are correct in that overdoing the processing can be detrimental. I'll go back and double check my processing. Take care.

P.S. I'm unsure as to what the prey is anyone?

Paul your posted image has no specific color profile embedded or attached !!! Converting to srgb is not enough , you need to embed the chosen color profile . it is just one box to tick in the " save for web " menu of PS

    Paul, very good comments above.

I would say that you did very well just to get this. Colors on the subject are pretty.

Although I don't know this subspecies it looks very small and fast. Perhaps 1/5000 or higher would help your cause if you can next time?

No idea what's in the mouth, almost like a spider leg or stinger hanging down.

Hi Paul .... to have the color profile embedded in your file , your " save for web " window should look like the screen grab

Thanks Brian...yes, I was pretty happy getting this in a burst of shots, and yes to a higher SS next time. These Kingfishers are quite small and very fast...just a spash of colour as they zoom past. I've seen them at this location before, so will be going back again soon...hopefully for a closer shot. They perch fairly high up on tree branches so one needs to approach slowly as they fly off easily. Cheers.

Andreas. Thank you for that...never checked that box before! Always something to learn.
