    I thought the contrast between the cones and the bird made for a more interesting image than the bird alone, so I didn't attempt to change the bg in any way. I also realize that the bird is mostly seen from below, but at least he's showing off his yellow throat well.

    Brier Island, Nova Scotia last week.

    D300, Tamron 200-500, ISO 500, 1/320, f8.0/ No flash.

    I think this image demonstrates well how a bright yellow bird can be difficult to see in a tree. The BG is interesting, but a little overpowering. You did well with the exposure considering the lack of flash and the angle of light. Thanks for posting!

    I like the unusual setting and wish for a bit more head turn toward you. I would also increase the color temperature a bit as there is a slight blue cast and sharpen the bird a bit more.
