Taken from the window of my vehicle. Here in the Midwest, you don't have a snowball's chance in hades getting within 50 yards of a Northern Harrier on foot. They will get reasonably close to a parked vehicle.
Can't say that I'm a big fan of head on images but I do like the cocked head and intense stare.

Hi Jack, I agree with you, coked head and intense stare is a winner. I also love the beautiful clean rosy/blue BG. Great blind you had!

Great image Jack! I like the tilted head, sweet BG, IQ and composition.

This is close... just a tad sharper in the face for me. BG is very nice.

That tip of the head makes it super interesting. Nicely done.

Jack, the wing pos is helped greatly by the beautiful bkg gradient and splayed wingtips. The pose helps too.

I've a little envy as I clipped the tips on one just like this recently. Great job.

My personal pref is it could benefit from some noise reduction. Thumbs up!

I think others are underrating the image because I think it is awesome. Yes, there's a touch of noise and it could be a tad sharper, but I the direct stare with cocked head is unlike any harrier shot I've seen posted on this board (and there have been a lot!). The BG is so sweet. Maybe take another run at the processing to see if you can crisp it up a bit. The image is totally deserving of the extra time.

The tilted head makes this one. I don't mind the pancake wing position and head on pose.

Another try at PP, with a little more NR and sharpening of the face.
