    Default theme: female northern cardinal in nor-easter

    Taken a few days ago in my backyard near my feeders. I love when the wind blows and the down feathers are exposed giving me a glimpse into what other feather color a bird has. Here, the gust of wind also blew the birds tail! I removed a small bottom branch rather than cutting it off. Also, beak clean up. DPP, to PS

    Pretty much perfect canvas (so, what's new). I like this one even better than last, if that's possible. TFS

    I like the loose composition, falling snow, wind blown feathers and look back pose. Well done Ann.

    Beautiful with the snow and like how it has accumulated at the top of the branch. Nice choice of branch with the lichens. Love all the detail in the feathers and colors as you mentioned. TFS

    Ann, more stunning Cardinals in the snow I see. One bird I wish we had here.

    I like going a little extreme with the bird position. Snow building up with the lichen on the vertical branch adds interest.

    The way the stick comes up in the frame is sort of take it or leave it for me, but since it's as it was in the wild that's probably best.

    Perhaps you could consider a bit of a boost of blacks in the neutrals or levels mids for a touch of sat?

    love the winter settings, details don't look good to my eye, maybe too much noise reduction ?

    Hi Ann, lovely pose showing the face nicely. I like the simplicity of the perch, and the smaller curved perch. The colours pop nicely from the grey BG, and a perfect image for the monthly theme, showing off the snow on the lichen.

    Ann;

    Very well captured winter scene, for reasons mentioned. I think the slightly muted exposure and contrast work well for this scene. The ruffled feather and elongated snow flakes tell the story well.

    Thank you Randy, yes during a snowstorm colors are very muted and that is one of many attractions to shooting in a storm for me. Bumping up contrast would have presented a very different presentation.

    Love those fluffed up feathers and the comp you chose here.
    I am not crazy about the end of the stick that sticks up but the lichens do help. Gail

    I was hoping to see a female in the snow on here sooner than later. Framing is right on. I like the ruffled feathers. Gives a sense of the nor easter.

    Very nice wintry feel here. That was a tough comp, but the left twig saved it from having too much room at left...for that reason I'm OK with the "upshoot" part of it. I'm liking the wind-ruffled feather, which brings another certain "brrrrr" element to the image :-)
