Another bird from our morning in Lima in 2015. This individual appears slightly paler than others of the species that I have seen, making for a very attractive bird IMO. I wasn't able to find any reference to the female or juvenile of the species being lighter than the male, so maybe it's just individual variation. Cloned out the tail of another duck on the left, and its wake.
I love this perfect field guide pose and the soft light. And though I like the pano crop, I'd love to see a bit more room below the bird. Head angle and sharpness are spot on.
with love, artie

Bill, I would love to shoot this species. Tiny bit of envy felt right now.
But I'm happy for you. And it appears you captured this one nicely, sharp and I think saturated nicely for a high key frame.
Like the comp, although slightly higher in frame could help.
Only things I could offer would be if you were able to get a little lower pov since the reflection is a little muddled (if it were possible), and also I think maybe where you cloned the other duck there is a pretty abrupt cutoff of the wake below the beak. Always ask myself if I'd notice if the poster didn't mention it and I think I might here.
This is very pretty Bill.
I like the high key look.
Good details on the duck.
Has a soft, ethereal quality which I like.
Agree on moving the duck a bit higher in the frame,
Gail
Thank you all for your comments. I like the framing in the OP, but I do have more room below and will take a look at that option. (In general I think I tend to like more space above the subject than some of you.)
Brian, the partial duck and wake were in the upper left quadrant. There was no cloning in the area beneath the subject's bill; that ripple looks just like that in the RAW file.
