Default theme: northern cardinal in the nor'easter

This was a taken a few days ago in our first storm that left about a foot of snow. I would have preferred to keep the cardinal on the right side of the frame but i didn't like the stub of the intersecting branch crowding the tail... Also, not a fan of the oof top left lichen that looks rather blobby...

Lovely details in the Cardinal, a really handsome little bird, I don't mind the blobby lichen but you could get rid of the branch say down to the next clump of lichen. Bottom right branch again easy fix if inclined. I like the less than perfect twiggery it doesn't look too perfect - that's nature - looks fine and natural to me.
This sounds inconsistent - no it is inconsistent with previous comments but the little snapped off twig just in front of the chest does irritate me, it looks as if snapped off, I'd fix that.
I like the image very much, I think it is a little gem.

Great framing for me and since it's known to be lichen from context, don't mind blob at all. Great pose, control of reds and I love the look back with extended crest. TFS

Snow really adds and those stacked primaries...

Like the over the shoulder look you captured, Ann. Snow is just right, and wings look great in the slightly raised position. Lovely background.

A lovely winter frame. He doesn't look too happy. The snow really adds to the scene. I could imagine a version with the upper half of the vertical branch evicted.

Bingo! I can see why you like the first because you like your tree, but as a Winter Holiday Card, the repost is the one.
I would have left in the down branch on the right.

Ann, I love Cardinals in winter..... and I've never even seen one as such, until this week with the couple posted here.

The dorsal view with the look back is fabulous! Great details on the bird.

I assume you ran denoise on the bird @ ISO 2000? One thing I share frequently but believe highly in is brushing the blacks after DN down to a copy of the bkg layer. It just over-saturates blacks IMO.

I do like the repost, and would have left the lower right branch.

Very nicely done, can't wait for more with the R5 from you!

Thank you Brian, I did not run denoise on the bird, only the BG, but i will keep in mind your advice when i denoise a bird next time. here's another repost with the bottom branch! I'll post a female soon, she's gorgeous!

Love a bird in the snow. Espcially a cardinal. The pose and raised crest are very nice. The darker background shows the snow very well.

A real beauty Ann! I like the second repost the best. Great bird, setting, falling snow and IQ.
