I can see why you like this one. The pose is pretty sweet. Nice perch and background. The bird does look a touch soft.

Hi Jon, I like the action but the IQ is lacking, dof, and a bit too much wing blur with loss of details... i like this perch!

Looks sharp where it needs to be and I like the motion blur adding to the excitement. Love the perch/lichens and the multicolored BG. TFS

Thanks for your comments everyone, I appreciate there is wing blur, I don't mind that. The eye (I double checked the raw file) is pin sharp. I think the issue giving the perception of being unsharp is the limited DOF coupled with 1/1600 sec - I do have some at 1/2500 and 1/3200.

Hi Jon, why do you think it was limited DoF as I'm assuming in 'old money' you would have been at around f/7.1 with your kit? Agree more SS, but the kit doesn't like to be pushed on the ISO front sadly. Agree a tad more to the LHS, it's too central, but that comes back to pre planning. I do think it's a tad dark, albeit we have had crap light for too long now and it has a light blue cooler cast, just tweaking the WB I thing gets to where it needs to be. Yes the eye is pin sharp, likewise yje body plumage below the head. I might loose the stump on the LHS and the small bit on the RHS.

Thanks Steve, I have to admit I checked colour balance and I did not perceive a blue cast. Your is a bit brighter, I added a modified mid-tone contrast curve in PS to mine - on reflection maybe unnecessary.

Visually you ca see it Jon, but the numbers illustrate it too.

Probably not, or just a mask for selective input, but it did need an exposure lift!

BTW R5/6 have gone back, as Canon finally got their act together.

Pose is great but the IQ ain’t just there and nothing you can do about it. 1/1600 is too slow for a frame like this. I find the colors in the original somewhat dull and muted with bluish cast (need to calibrate your monitor?). Steve did a good job of fixing the color for you but the lack of critical detail remains.
