This is one of six male Northern Cardinals that are daily visitors to our feeders. Full-frame. Somewhat large in the frame, since I was set up for the tiny Red-breasted Nuthatch on that perch.

    D500, 500f4 + 1.4 TC, ISO 1600, 1/2500s @ f/8 manual. Gitzo and Mongoose.

Hi Bill, I can't see how you could improve the image. I love the perch, I love the bird and I love the background. One of the nicest male Cardinal images I have see. Thank you for sharing.

    This is excellent.
Great BG and the reds look great.
I do not find him large in the frame.
The perch size really suits the cardinal.

A stunner with perfect framing and the EXP is soooo spot on (for reds and blacks). TFS

This is really good. A first rate Cardinal photo.
I would run more NR on the BG for perfection.

    Bill, very pretty.

The lighting helped a bunch here. Beautiful pose with HA nicely in plane with the sensor. Regarding crop, yeah I think I feel ya and maybe a touch more could have helped.

There are a few spots where I see blues coming through and not sure they are supposed to be there - namely on the feet, in the wing area, up the back, near the beak opening and on the crest of the beak. Something you could toy with if you wanted.

    Congrats man, really good!

Hi Bill, love the angled pose, and the colour of this Cardinal is really striking. Overall sharp, and an interesting inter twined perch.

I suppose more room would help the comp breathe a bit, but still rather nice as is. Nobody mentioned the shadow on the tail so it must not be that much of an issue. Lovely perch perch - glad it made another return appearance, good BG, and the reds look perfect.

I've liked this perch series Bill, and. this is really nice. We don't get these birds over this side of the pond but I think too often the. reds look unreal. Here, the. tones look like what I expect them to be like

Nice to see a cardinal on this perch. The alert pose with the raised crest is nice.

Another beauty on this now famous perch, Bill. Excellent reds and blacks showing great detail. Like the muted background colors, and the patch of blue sky.
