    Default Malachite Kingfisher

This was captured from a hide at a location in Cape Town. There was nothing removed from this image to achieve a clean BG. Just a tiny Jewel of a Malachite perched on a single strand of Reed grass. I had the setting for a take off, and I normally nail the larger Kingfisher take offs, but as you blink, they are out the frame, and they do not give any sign that they are going to take off.

Hi Stu, One super sweet canvas IMHO. Perfect for this diminutive subject and I love the simplicity and the light and shadows for more of a sense of depth. TFS

I like the sweet BG, perch and mall in frame composition. That perch can't be bent down from the weight of the Kingfisher! Well done Stu.

Super shot Stu I remember these little birds well! I like the composition and the beautiful colours.
(Stu - Olympus procapture would nail the take off - pretty much guaranteed!)

    Hi Stu,
I am not sure about this one.
Light rather harsh and too much empty space on the right for my taste.
But I am happy to see you posting again!
I do like the great BG and simple perch. The KF just needed to perch closer to the flower to make this work for me,

    Stu,

What a fun composition. So out of the ordinary and I love that you pushed some boundaries. I like it.

Like the bkg overall too. But tend to agree that the harsh light is a slight drawback.

    Glad you shared!

Works well small in the frame. You handled the light very well. Nice background.
