    Default Long-billed Curlew

Though common around the Bay Area in winter, these only visit my local shorebird spot occasionally. The few that do invariably fly-by high overhead, and I've had one only other water-level flight opportunity in the four years I've frequented the location (and I f'ing missed it because I was chimping!!!!). So, this represents overdue redemption. It is my first flight frame of this species, North America's largest shorebird.

Well captured Dorian....not easy to get close to, if they're anything like our Curlews over here....Lovely light and nice colours throughout..I like the flight pose, although wings fully up would maybe be more dramatic, there is a good view of the underwing. A wee bit looser crop, I think would be worth a look at.

    Well done

Looks good to me - perfect light, great eye. level flight. Yes there could be a more dramatic wing position, but personally this one is fine for me, nice work

Dang, it's almost like flip the previous frame on the vertical axis and swap species.

Equally as pretty for me for all the same reasons. Looks like a superb area to shoot shorebirds Dorian.

Oh, and sounds super cool on the book. What a story man, I would love to know more about the journey. Seems you're on a great path now :-)

Agree with Wesley. It looks as if you have patented that lower BKGR with just a few wavelets :)

Very nice,,, maybe a better wing position would be the only thing that would improve it.
I also really like the bottom edge.

Hi Dorian, everything works here, and I like the eye level perspective. Sweet light, sharp, and love the pastel blue water. Congrats on your first of this fellow.

Nice work getting this guy in flight. Lovely light shows off his underwing colors. Wing position noted, but just fine with me. Nice BG too. Congratulations.

nice frame Dorian, the blue in the BG is really nice good details and sharp too, the only issue for me is that the wing position is not quite there. It's not difficult to get these in flight but the challenge is the get the wings stretched up or down. Sometimes in a pass they just don't go all the way up or down, you have to keep trying until you get one fully up or down so keep it up
