    Default Guardian of the vulnerable.

With waves crashing all around them as a storm loomed over the horizon this parent Royal Tern was standing guard over her day-old chick. Photographed June 6th aboard the Hooptie Deux, this baby tern was pretty early in the season it seems.

At first we didn't notice the hatchling as we were concentrating on the colony above the rocks, but when James spotted it we made sure not to stick around long as the adult seemed somewhat concerned about our presence. A bonus sighting for sure!

These are such special moments to capture Daniel and how fortunate you were to be in the right place at the right time. Great image !! Excellent exposure and the composition is over the top. Love it !!!

Great find, looks like a dangerous place for a little tern.

I really like the water droplets aimed perilously close to the baby. Looks like baby terns get their feet wet early!
