Way cool action and pose with excellent controlled inclusion of environment. Framing totally works for me. TFS

    ps
Upper BG is killer and for prey tail works in leu of eyes IMHO... Curious, how'd you get low so fast? The low angle on this action puts it over the top for me...

Action and mouse look great, but the bird isn't as sharp as your usual frames. It's a bummer since this is a beautiful underside view. Not sure what can be done to help it along.

    Thanks, Dorian,
shot with the 500pf and extender, a real challenge for BIF so I have about 10 flight frames
with the mouse and some are sharper than others.
I sharpened this more. I did nothing to the OP.

I think this is a significant improvement. How heavy a crop is it (from the original RAW)?

Not a huge crop. 60% of original.
Not quite on target, Had I had bare lens, it would have been tack sharp.
I have several others, maybe better ones.. Fun encounter.
Tracking flight with 700mm on crop sensor about the same as 1200mm on Full frame.

Hi Dan, nice capture. The prey is great, the birds wing and tail position are nice. In the repost the added contrast adds to the image and improves it. Nice image, thank you for sharing.

Fun encounter indeed - we don't often see images of harriers catching prey. I love the "full" look at the wings and tail. The repost looks much better.

Really like this one Dan...and the repost is better. Could the eye be a shade lighter?

love the prey and the pose, you caught the moment of impact. head looks like it has some motion blur (1/2500 sec a bit slow). I didn't have much luck with the 500PF + TC for flight, very low keeper ratio.... it only worked on D5 for me....
