Good fieldcraft and I agree he looks very happy!
Love the golden water, low POV and IQ. Colors are perfect.
    Iridescence is spot on.
As always (and this is my problem!) I am never sure about these types of crops.I am like Goldilocks- too much, too little but rarely "just right" for my personal taste!
    Lovely image,

I'm not sure who's happier, you or him. Just sublime, do I really have to say why? TFS

That BG is about as nice as it gets for a Wood Duck.

    Very pretty Daniel.

Exposed nicely (nice job on the burn), which is not easy with Woodies IMO. The gold palette is perfect for a backdrop and I love a touch of bright bow wake.

Great IQ and love the 'smile'!

Strong fall frame on the gold. Since you've already cut off the head on the reflection, I'd crop in a bit tighter for more detail and impact. I think you're kinda caught between full body shot and head shot with 2/3 of the body as it. Quacking pose is fantastic. Cropping in would emphasize that action more against other, less interesting rear end.

Thanks gang, and yes, I am also very often not 100% happy with cropped ducks like this. I wanted to keep the full white feathers at right, plus some space, but in looking at it again I could surely crop in to about mid-way through the middle part of those white feathers. Same for below as per Dorian. Since this is full-frame I have plenty of pixels to play with .

Gorgeous colors on the duck. The color in the water and the background are nice as well. Really like how the water melts into the background.

I love the open beak, evertyhing is spot on in my book, but I wish the whole duck was in the frame

    Daniel:

Lovely soft light, a beautiful subject, good shooting angle, a happy duck pose makes for a happy photographer.
There are times when a zoom lens would be helpful with difficult framing.
