Hi folks going from low to straight high altitude , from the heat to the " cold" .
This handsome marmot had no issues with me , approaching slow and low !!!
Took me some minutes to get that close ... to shoot with a wide angle .
Image taken in Austria , at a place close to the town of Filzmoos .

    Canon EOS 1Dx II

    F 11 / Iso 8000 ; 1 /1250 sec ; man esp and auto iso

Processed with C1 and PSCC 2021 ; full frame and little clean up in FG

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous thread

Lovely encounter Andreas, and a good example of what one can achieve in photography with low POV. Add the 24-105mm lens and the result is...a supersized marmot

Subject is really cute, great timing I like the framing here, the landscape and its colours, and especially those tall trees in the BG. IQ looks good for ISO 8000.

Image is well processed and presented, I enjoyed viewing. Thank you so much for sharing,

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Love a wide angle wildlife frame like this. Nice pose. The environment is very nice. You could have halfed the ISO. Still image quality looks great.

Very nicely processed, I get the full intention of slow and low and a small subject in the environment. For me I feel he is a little too large in the frame, he looks about the size of a bear (!!) in relative terms if you see what I mean. I am also a little surprised at the high ISO having said that quality is good.

Like the use of a wider lens, you must have been incredibly close. F/11 may have gobbled up the ISO Jon.

Thanks folks for your comments , much appreciated .

John - the Iso came because of the used SS and f-stop , being that close to the subject I needed the fast SS to freeze the marmot . As the slightest movement of the subject would have caused motion blur and I wanted to avoid any of that .... so I rather deal with the noise .

Jon - well a matter of taste if one likes a " bear marmot " or not , that is just the case when one has the option to shoot small subjects with a wide angle . And I really like to create such images , whenever it is possible !!!!!

Gabriela - it is so much fun to create such images , but still one has to act carefully as they are very sensitive to sudden and unexpected movements by the photographer , albeit being " tame " !!!!

    Steve - close , indeed !!!

    Thanks Andreas

Hi Andreas -- Nice use of the wide angle lens. Really made the most of it, the subject looks quite close and so good call on dof. Liked the settings and loved details in there.

    very nicely done.

    TFS !

Amazing image of the Marmot at close quarters. Nice use of the wide angle lens.
