    Default Leaps and Bounds

    Dear Friends,

This image was taken in September in the Kruger Park, very close to the Biyamiti weir. A beautiful area that offers some of the best drives and sightings in the Park, the weir itself a great source of water and home to a variety of amazing birds.

So it was almost lunch time... Carl and I were enjoying a coffee break and watching a herd of impala coming to drink when we suddenly noticed a lioness stalking and then leap out of tall grass. Had my D4/300mm combo right next to me so I dropped my flask and picked up the camera, barely managing a couple of frames (without support) as she shot past at great speed.

Mmmm...1/2500s not too bad, thinking more SS might have been good but had no chance to check camera settings. Is it sharp enough? Let me know. In terms of PP work I did my usual simple flow, LR adjustments and then PSCC, also removed a fairly large piece of elephant dung close to the lioness and a rock in the water.

Miraculously the impala escaped the jaws of the lioness. And I got an image or two from the sighting

Thank you so much for all your kind comments and suggestions on my previous images, I truly appreciate it. Have a great rest of the week!

    Warmest regards,

Wow Gabriela, to me it looks like a stunning image! Looks sharp to me on my monitor. I like the way you froze her with the paws in air and I like the fact that the legs are underneath her not extended. The dust kicked up and the bits flying around her tail and the intent stare tells the tale of a chase. I forgot the wrinkles in the fur. Cant tell you much PP wise, just learning the ropes, but the colours in the image look natural to me.

Hi Gabriela, the combo nailed it nicely, well done on the techs, it was obviously meant to be.

Love the dust and the fact the lioness is partially in the air, head/gaze transfixed on the impala. Looks light was overcast and so colours more muted. The large rock in the BKG is less than ideal, but the fact that you got what you did outweighs things, well done.

Beat Carl was still finishing his coffee off , tell him I'm missing his images.

Gabriela, I think you have nailed this one. Loved the intent on lionesses face and the sprinting pose. Techs are good enough to frame the capture. I wonder you were prepared for it or so .

Colours are inline with the lighting conditions and looks very natural to me.

Matter of personal choice, but I might remove that dry stick below its chin.

    Very nicely done, TFS !

Thank you all so much for your kind comments and time to view

Just to clarify things, we were aware of the lions' presence, saw them earlier looking lazy and not interested in the antelope passing by. So we were also quite relaxed...Only this lioness must have changed her mind

Steve, not sure Carl managed to grab a shot here because he was seated in the driver's seat and the chase happened on our LHS. I hope he did

Haseeb, I will remove the grass blade for sure, thank you!

Hi Gabriela .... a flying lion , really cool !!!
I do like the action and the concentrated look of the lion .... locked on the target !!
Well timed shot and lots of space to run into for the lion ..... well done .
Color and tone ... well matter of taste , I would slightly push things if this was mine . Not all on one layer .... for full control .

Pond and large rock are not ideal .... but hey who cares in this case

    Enjoyed watching this post

    Thank you very much Andreas,

Agree with you on all counts, bit of a busy BG and the dung midden in front of the lioness, not ideal.

And yes I will have another look at this and see if I can give it a little more punch. Very subtle and only where needed

Wow this is really nice. I love the dynamic pose and composition. Good techs and PP work. I think you nailed it pretty well.
