Hi folks .... another one from Nxai Pan .
As you can see the Wildebeest is making himself dirty .... with truck loads of fun .
He was rolling himself all over the place ... finally running back to the herd .

Interesting behavior. Why was he doing this? Trying to stay cool? Looks like another hot one. I guess that's why he's by the water.

I like how you composed the picture Andreas, water in the FG and the OOF Thomson's gazelle's in the BG. I dont mind the harsh light, that and the heat haze show the rough enviroment. I also like the way you froze the tail and the mud makes a nice texture on the gnu's hide.

Thanks John and dan for your comments .

John - this behavior can be seen very often at waterholes for various reasons , one reason is to protect themselves against insects and for sure it does help cooling off . A second reason is ... the males showing their strength , as they do it very often alone ... whereas the females and smaller males are doing this closer to the herd .

    Good evening Andreas,

Would not resist taking images of this WB either, that's for sure...looks like he is having fun! Nice behavioural frame and John is right, subject is trying to reduce its body temperature. And maybe throwing some mud about, in order to intimidate onlookers

Quite like the bokkies in the BG, they help make the 'story'. Poor things, they are waiting their turn to drink. And baking in the hot sun... but they can take the heat Framing looks good to me, nice thinking on techs. This is a sensibly processed image where colours and tonality match the environment perfectly.

Must say I am enjoying your " Nxai Pan" collection, it shows thoughtfulness and understanding of the environment. Thank you for sharing, and looking forward to more

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Sorry Andreas does not really appeal to me, fist glance I would have thought the wildebeest was dead - the tail says other wise! the bright background does not rest easy with these tired old eyes of mine. Nothing wrong with the processing - just does not make for easy viewing to me.

Not grabbing me Andreas and the gazelle I find distracting, but like the low POV.
