Just a Gull.... with a snack. Good to stretch the legs on the R5 and practice some BIF.

You really have to force yourself to keep panning with the EVF. But with focus acquisition using zone and then holding with the AF + AED it's definitely more sticky than the D850.

Would've preferred a little more SS but with the sun in and out of the clouds I kept exp where needed for this series.

    Canon R5
    600mm + 2.0x
    ISO 1250
    1/1000
    f8

    LR and PS, DN.

Adult Ring-billed in winter plumage. Looks pretty good for limited light and f/8. Fully stopping the wings was gonna be tough, even if you doubled the ISO to 2500.
All our attention goes to the face anyway with the soft light and gentle color, so that works really well.

I am so curious to hear your thoughts about the R5. Canon's AF has really fallen behind Nikon and Sony these last few years, so I want to know how the R5 does in
that department. I've heard many folks touting the AED, but they they post crappy shots of static subjects as evidence (so their opinions are totally useless). I'm
really hoping the body had stead AF tracking which persists with the 1.4x and 2x. You are a skilled user, so your impressions will be valuable.

Down wing position is really nice.
Seems like the tracking is also good.

I will be taking a good look at nikon mirrorless soon.

    I wish for better light

Well the R5 sure does the business for BIF Brian...Nice flight pose and detail on the bird...I'm sure once you get more practice with the camera, tracking BIF should become easier for you.

Dorian, thank you for the kind words.

Compared to the D850 the R5's technology really shines. I presume that will apply when making a comparison between it and any dslr. Will continue to share as I get more rounds with it.

Thank you, and agreed on the light Krishna.

The D850 is not to be forgotten but the future is indeed mirrorless.

    Love your title!
Good wing position and I like how is skimming just above the surface of the water.
So glad you are happy with the R5. Still waiting for mine,
    Gail

I ordered it from Camera Canada and I will be getting one of the cameras from the next shipment. They did offer me an R5 last month but they could not get me the EF to RF adapter so I chose to wait until they could send me the adaptor and the grip and the extra batteries.

Excellent! I got my 600mm from them, good experience.

But I had an even better experience from Steve at Bedford camera, where I got the R5. You get an extra 3% off there too with the code BIRDSASART

    Can't wait for ya....
