great pose and light with excellent sharpness and details. in a perfect world the perch would have been just a bit thinner but that's not in our control in a wild setting

Beautiful light, pose, details.
This is excellent! Great pose, I like the perch. Although common, they
are a tough subject to get right, Very nice.
I might lighten the bird just a tad...

Hi Kurt. Very very nice! Love the detail, colours, HA and BG. The perch works for me. TFS
Hi Kurt,
a beautiful and regal frame. Lovely vertical only would suggesting lift exposure...
The pose is super engaging, and the details look great across the bird and perch. The feet peeking out are great. I assume this was a set-up? Also, why be at ISO 1600 here? You had tons of light, and there was no need to be at 1/8000 for a perched bird. Keep those extra stops of noise (even though noise isn't an issue in this image). All in all a really pretty frame of this species. Yes to lightening the bird.
Thanks everyone. Dorian, I shoot a lot of take-off images so I bumped up the ISO and SS in hopes of catching him taking off. They don't give a lot of hints they are going so I wouldn't have time to make the change on the fly. But with that said, I should have taken a few frames at ISO 200 first, so I really agree...LOL.
Kurt, first time viewing this species. We get Northern (Red-shafted and Yellow-shafted) of which I've captured several frames.
While the perch isn't the most attractive, the head angle, details shown and background gradient make the frame.
TFS!
Very nice image....Love the pose, I don't mind the perch, it has a nice weathered look about it...Lovely detail on the bird and nice BG.

Dynamic pose and sharp as can be. The dark oval behind the lower half of the bird was bad luck.
How did you get close to this bird? Were you in blind? At a feeder set-up? Did you sue audio?
I ask because it is not easy to walk up on these guys ...
