    Default Painted Sand Grouse

    Hi,
On my recent photography trip to Hampi, Karnataka one of my target species was this painted sand grouse. A rare bird, whose numbers are dwindling due to habitat loss (you know whom to blame) This was photographed from the window of a vehicle while off roading in search of them. They are hard to spot on the ground and my guide did a great job of finding them. These birds travel long distances in search of water and then store water in their neck and chest feathers for the little ones to draw according to my guide.

handsome lookign birds, the grasses do show the habitat but a bit distracting for me. wish the body was in focus too. a bit too large in the frame
