Very sweet light and love the colors Andreas. Very nice details and those oxpeckers add interest. Good techs as always.

The light is remarkable, I have not seen a hippo so well lit, they have previously always appeared to be darker in tone. I can't help but feel it is all little too bright, I would be inclined to tone it down a little.

Great timing Andreas, you captured quite a cheeky pose from this hippo. Striking colours and details look very good, one can see every single wound and scratch on the subject's hide as well as those small hairs.
Never seen a hippo this red, so I gather the light must have been awesome. Or maybe this chap has too much 'sunscreen' For those who do not know, hippo skin makes its own 'sunscreen lotion', a secretion that looks red in the beginning and later becomes brownish. This helps them maintain a normal body temperature when exposed to the harsh African sun.

The busy little Oxpeckers are a nice addition to this frame. Great POV. Techs spot on and subject well separated from the BG. Well processed overall, thank you Andreas for sharing!

PS. Thought I'd mention it, when importing your recent files in LR I noticed that basic EXIF data was not present, only your name and file size

    Kind regards,

    Gabriela Plesea

    Wow, what rich colours here.

Very nice light and details are terrific yet again.

    Oxpeckers adds to the scene.

I feel it is a bit tight at the bottom, but not a deal breaker.

Rest all is looking fine to me.

    Very nicely done, TFS !

The hippo being out of the water, isn't often posted, so this is nice. The Ox P's adds and you can see not only do they clean the wound, but also keep it open to constantly gorge. Being so red, you could be right Gabriela, but generally it's only if the hippo has been out of water for several days, but... Yes, in parts the hippo could do with some darkening to add more form, but personal, although I agree with Haseeb, it is tight at the foot. I think the blue of the water adds.

PS I think you mean EF rather than ED 500mm

Thanks folks for your kind comments ... much appreciated .

@ Steve .... indeed EF not ED , cannot mix Nikon and Canon

@ all ... color of the hippo was very reddish and became amplified by the morning light , the tonal range is good for me as presented . For sure there is always room to play with the tones , but think the subject has enough form and does not need more . I am okay with the framing , no need for more space on the bottom IMHO .

    Cheers Andreas
