    Default An ideal portrait ?

Once in a while patience pays off and all the stars line up to create an (almost) text book perfect portrait. today was one of those lucky days. I was able to get close to this juvenile kite free of obstruction and the golden state sun did not disappoint. hope you like this frame which was taken in last light

technical notes : shot with A9 II and 600 f/4 GM + 2X TC (1200mm) f/8 1/3200 sec ISO-2000 hand held. processed with C1P. Sony 600 GM optics is second to none delivering tack sharp frames with the 2X TC which can be permanently glued to this lens if need be. the IQ of this rig at 1200mm is almost unbelievable. In the past decade I have shot at this location with various gear and while I got some good frames with the Canon 600 + 2X TC at 1200mm it was not quite in the same league as this piece of optic. I got very few frames of the kites with my Nikon D5 due to lack of its reach given shorter focal length I had to work with, I had to use the D850 mainly, but it wasn't fast enough for action and didn't do well at higher ISO's....So I am happy to have a capable combo for the kites again.... Hope you like this frame.

A beautiful juvie in sweet light with a great BKGR. My only wish is that the bird were looking right down the lens barrel at you. Thanks for the call. I meant to call you yesterday but forgot :( Will try later today.

Arash, I think the image is very sharp and well exposed and I appreciate it is all about the light...... but sorry not for me too yellow - yes I do don't know what golden light is all about! I think a colour "corrected" version looks great but that is precisely not what you wanted - I appreciate you wanted to capture the moment.

thanks Jon the colors look fantastic to my eye and on my 4K NEC so I am not changing a thing. One day you need to come to CA and see how things look here for yourself.

Wonderful capture: pose, light, detail, background all great. My personal preference would have been to place the bird a tad further to the left in the frame.

Aarash, I wasn't suggesting for a minute you changed it, I am glad you are pleased with it. I was all set for a holiday in California in September for my 70th birthday but it had to be cancelled due to Covid - I do hope to get there before I pop my clogs.

Stunning portrait Arash. Love everything about it. Sweet light, nice details and perch and super BG. Are you shooting with Sony Gear exclusively these days? Whats your take on the Canon R5 and the new lenses?
