    Default Willet

Was hoping for something more exciting than a Willet when I went out in Saturday, but nothing else flew by! I do love their high contrast wings.

Yeah, the far/right wing could be a bit higher, but I think the lighting on the face, eye contact, feather detail, and softly graded background combine to overcome it.

These beauties may be common in your neck of the woods, Dorian, but how nicely captured and excellent flight angle. Beautiful detail even in the shadow cast by the leading edge of the lower wing. Like the background color also.

Nice flight shot Dorian....Love the BG colours which show the bird well. Good detail on the bird and I like the flight pose.

Willets in flight are really quite lovely, especially with so much nice detail captured. And beautiful water. Self-critique spot on.

Better a willet than nothing. The patterns on the wings are pretty neat. Nice dorsal view.

Dorian...love that pose, exposure and sharpness, against the gradient style BG.

I dig it Dorian, very simple and subtle. Agree with your assessment on wings but far from a throw-away.

Subject looks sharp and composition is sound. A touch of dark blue gradient at bottom improves the frame IMO.

I realize that for many people Willets are like the "mallards of the shorebird family", but whenever I see them when in Florida I get excited to photograph them as they are rare for me. I too see your point about the far wing, but everything else overrides this. Pretty sweet frame.
