Hello everyone. Thank you for your comments and suggestions to my previous post, as always much appreciated.
Another one from Botswana, where we sighted this Leopard late evening and spent some time just listening to the night sounds and feeling the leopards presence in the dark. After a while this Leopard decided to move and briefly perched itself on this log. So we finally used the light, keeping the focus on its belly and tried to make quick images, keeping in mind the use of artificial light and its effect.
DPP 4.12, PSCC 2020, BW conversion, curves, sharpened the subject.
Canon 1DX MK II, Canon 24-105 f4 , bean bag .
ss 1/125, iso 8000, f/5.6
Looking forward for your comments and suggestions.
What an experience this must have been, wow, stunning sighting, thank you so much for sharing!
I see clearly where you are going with this and love the idea. Just feel the leopard is somehow disconnected - or rather, 'isolated' from the rest of the frame. So in terms of the BG I would not go so dark but allow for some of the vegetation to come trough - just the outline of the trees, a tad, barely there. Enough to tell the 'story'?
Would also reduce the brightness on the leopard a bit. My version looks a bit noisy because I had to lift exposure, easier if you go back to the RAW. Let me know what you think?
I can see what you are tying to do, and think that including the tree line helps, also exposure on Leopard could be between the two versions ?
I tried to keep the noise as much as possible as it was appearing like stars, but some how after saving to reduced file size, that effect vanishes. The overall scene was brighter than it appears in the OP.
Yes, yes Haseeb, the leopard should be somewhere in-between. Played around with this last night but it was quite late and I was tired so did not do a nice job with the RP. But that's the whole idea, a bit more detail in the BG so the subject is not too isolated from the surroundings. And less brightness on the leopard, but not as dark as mine
My kinda image Haseeb, possibly one of your very best my friend.
Just love the whole composition and mood it portrays.
I do like Gabriela's RP, but would like to see a slight curves boost, just for a slight amount of pop, but still works nicely nonetheless.
@Gabriela: did you warm the tone slightly? As I like it if you have done so.

Is there anything better in this uncertain world we're living in right now.
How I miss my Africa, here in OZ we aren't likely to see ANY international travel until at least mid '21 at the very earliest! Have had to cancel 2 trips here and possible another March '21 trip now likely. .........rant over.

Hi Haseeb, I like your thinking and kudos in looking at something differently, however the framing isn't quite working for me, it's too tight in the corner and I get the impressive the subject is falling out of frame. I might have shot wide open, but FP bottom right, focus does tail off and bitten the biullet and gone to 16k, it's a MK2.
Hard to judge on a small sRGB 256 colour image Haseeb, but there is more you can get out I'm sure, especially with the tree, your call on the moon and the grainy light around it.

Post Production: It’s ALL about what you do with the tools and not, which brand of tool you use.

I did, Marc. Maybe too much, don't know, was playing around trying all sorts of things.

Indeed, must've been tough for you to stay away from Africa for so long. But things are improving on this side so hopefully you won't have to cancel March 2021
Well, very different sets of opinion , almost vertically opposite views. But then, it is so subjective and I appreciate all opinions as always, the best part of this forum.
Whoa, what a super image, I have to confess I am smitten by all three versions, not much help I am afraid but I think they are all great......... getting rid of the grain around the moon is a good idea.
