Hi all. Another venture to my latest favourite spot and another Australasian Grebe, this time coming in for a landing.

D500/500PF, 1/500th sec, f6.3, iso1250, manual mode HH. Thanks for looking, and all feedback/suggestions appreciated and learned from.

The best yet IMHO. Love the head/eye sharp with the extreme wing blur. Also love the painterly feel of the BG. TFS

I really like the image, but I feel there is a colour cast, checking colour balance helps I think.

Hi Jonathan. The colours are as I saw them at sunset. What cast do you see?

I agree Jon, at 1/500 this has give a nice blur to the wings Paul, but is the head critically sharp, perhaps 1/1000 may have been better, but still maintaining some blur???? The heavy blue is a given, warming the Temp and reducing some of the Magenta balances out things which I think was Jon's observation Paul. I like the angle forward creating momentum.

Hi Steve. yes...looks better...thank you. I did apply sharpening to the head as it wasn't as sharp as I'd like. This is one of those shots that you take when the bird suddenly appears when you're facing the other way...little time to alter the settings. Cheers!

I think this one was doing a short "rise and flap" in place, rather than landing - at least that is a behaviour I see in our grebes over here. Lots of nice greens. I'd personally prefer a more open wing position, but there is a good sense of movement, particularly with the far wing's primaries just sticking out.

Thanks Daniel. The next shot in the burst is with its head under the water. Cheers.

Neat looking grebe. I like the color and texture in the water.
