Congrats on the new lens David. Excited to hear how you like it.
I put my name in for an R5 last weekend. Not sure I'll run the 100-500 but it sounds fantastic.

Given you're currently running with the best DSLR (Nikon for AF and IQ) for wildlife and are a clear expert at using them, can't wait to hear your opinion and see your results with the R5. Assuming you have Canon EF primes which work seamlessly with EF to RF converter. And the RF equivalents will be coming...

Hi David, nice portrait of a GBH. I really like the raised crest and the nice clear eye. The tip of the bill is a tad soft, most likely because of the narrow depth of field with the TC, sometimes better to take it off and crop more. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words David. I am very excited. Will most likely rent a 600mm IS iii for a week or so to be sure, or purchase and return if for some reason it's unsatisfactory. Have a feeling it won't be, and will also order the 1.4x iii.
So many things to look forward to; 45mp, elec shutter with 20 fps and silent, much better ISO capability, substantially better AF, on and on. It feels like it has all the goods and some of the prelim shots I see look fantastic (photographer dependent of course).
You enjoying the R?

Perhaps having the focus point a bit further along the bill David you may not have runout of DoF.
BTW the EF lenses work very well with the R5 & R6 with little to no difference, plus having IS on the EF lenses does add nicely too.

Hi Steve, Thanks for your always valued input. I know, I have been using very old EF lenses on an R system for 2 years now. I can tell those who want to know there is no difference for the EF lenses with EF to RF converter except improvements of better AF coverage in the frame and better low light AF. EF glass with converter is seamless and only adds mirrorless advantages when attached to an R body. Thanks again.

If the 100-500 performs anything like the 100-400 II then you will not miss the original 1-4. Congratulations on the new gear!
Good portrait and great light.

Love that eye and raised crest! The lighting is really lovely. Detail looks pretty good given the 2x. You must have been really close if you weren't able to get the bill tip at f/11!
