One of the rare moments a cub would look to camera, rather than burying their heads into the last remnants of the Walrus carcuss on the shoreline. Bobbing around in a zodiac with a 500mm is less than ideal, but not knowing what the encounter was to be like, I favoured a fixed lens to either of the 100-400 (lighter) or the heavier 200-400 with 1.4x. Taken late afternoon with the warm light, highlighted the bears fur nicely, encrusted with blubber, blood and other elements... It is crucial around this time that Bears begin to pile on the weight, getting ready for hibernation in the coming Winter months.
