    Default Vulturine Tree-scape

Turkey Vulture — adult sunning on dead tree with adult Black Vulture and juvenile Turkey Vulture

This image was created on Friday 14 August 2020 at Indian Lake Estates. I used the Levered Clamp FlexShooter Pro/Induro/GIT 404L-mounted Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS lens, the Sony FE 1.4x teleconverter, and the blazingly fast AF King, the Sony Alpha a9 II Mirrorless Digital Camera Body. ISO 800. Exposure determined by Zebras with ISO on the rear dial: 1/500 sec. at f/9 in Manual mode. The exposure was confirmed as perfect by RawDigger. ABW at 7:37am on a sunny morning. Tracking Flexible Spot (S) Continuous AF was active at the moment of exposure and performed to perfection.

You can learn what I was thinking when I created this and two others images in the Backing Up for Vulturine Tree-scapes blog post here.

As for the image, don't be shy; all comments are welcome and appreciated.

The 840mm did a decent job of mitigating up angle and the framing looks perfect to me. The EXP, poses and HAs all spot on (surprise, surprise). Just wondrous details in all that dark plumage. You could tone down the barked part of the tree just a little more. TFS

    ps
The top pose is killer and wish the end of the Spanish moss was in the frame (In a perfect world). Now I'm gonna go read your blog post...

Awesome scene, and killer perch for this trio - I love how it is weathered, and the moss hanging off adds a lot. Pretty neat to see two species sitting together like this. Perfectly balanced comp. A couple of dust spots to remove (one above, and one under, the left wing).

David. Thanks you. Good point on the 840; the longer the focal length, the lower the angle of inclination (or declination ...) The tonality of the bark looks fine from here. As for the end of the moss, it got pretty ugly there ... Follow the link to the blog and take a look at Image #3 to see the problem.

Thanks, Dan. Not sure how I missed those. They look as if they were hole punched!

There were actually four dust spots. All gone, I hope ...

Very neat to see 2 species of vulture together.
I would be tempted to crop from the bottom and prune the spanish moss so that it doesn't exit the frame.
By cropping some off the bottom, it tricks the eye into thinking the bottom vultures are near eye level.
I would also desaturate the blue of the sky slightly.
Really cool looking tree- the reddish tones are unusual. What kind of a tree is it?

Hi Artie, the image looks good. Neat to find both Turkey and Black Vultures together. The third appears to be a juvenile. Wonderful old, weathered tree. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful feather details and I like seeing the differences in the birds. I'm a big fan of a little environment in shots so I'm really liking all the tree and moss

Artie, congrats on getting the band together here (so to speak).

Levels help this one tremendously. The moss only adds for me. You handled the light well.

    TFS!

Very nice all around. The pose on all three birds is perfect. The top bird makes this one for me with that pose. The moss hanging off the perch is another nice touch.
