    Default Gannet in setting sunlight

Starting to get back out and about, and needed my gannet fix - might be a few posted soon, hope nobody has a fear of these lovelies! I had 2 diving boat trips booked but both were blown out by the weather, but no hardship being on top of the cliffs on a nice sunny evening.

This one was shot as the setting sun was turning the colours nice, I like the pastel tomes as opposed to the usual blue background

    Mike:

I appreciate subtle images as well. Agree with change of softer background, like the subtle rim lighting on head and neck. Crop is effective.

    Cheers

A different and very pleasing Gannet shot. I like the pastel tones.

Hi Mike, lovely portrait with killer background. Striking markings on the bird and nice colors. If mine I might be tempted to crop to eliminate the cliff and go tighter to highlight the face and eye. Thank you for sharing.

I like this Mike, the colours look really good, the plumage detail is all there too. Very often photographers boost the colouration of the head on gannets but I think this is just right especially in those conditions.

Here is one instance where off-angle lighting works very well! Nicely done, very pleasing to the eyes.

Thumbs up from me too Mike. Really like the pastel tones too. Lovely detail, HA and I agree with Daniel's comment on the off-angle lighting. The Gannet I've been posting is an immature one...so hoping I get the chance to snap an adult at some stage. TFS

Nice framing and pose. The soft light is nice. Sharpness is great.

    This is sooo...nice Mike.
Love the perfect HA, the side light and the perfect exposure on the whites.
Killer nice color in the BG and I think your crop is spot on.
    IQ and details are excellent.
The bit of ground in LLC really helps ground (pardon the pun) the image but remains unobtrusive.
    Good one!

Dirro all the positives above. But again, I am not a fan of boxy crop unless absolutely needed. For the repost I cropped to 3X2 and did a bit of cliff clean-up ... And eliminated the small clump of grass on the wing.

I miss the place. And you!

Cheers Artie, it was very quiet this year - not that that bothers me in the slightest! 2 Families of Peregrines and Barn Owls all resident this year as well. Only thing missing was a New York accent!

I like the clean up you did, left the sizing small as it appears some members are struggling to view large verticals without scrolling.

    Stay safe

    Mike
