I travelled North at the weekend to Cairngorm to photograph Ospreys. The owner of the place I went to, has stocked lots of rainbow trout in a smallish lochan, which has attracted Ospreys from the surrounding area. The hide is sunk into the ground which gives quite a good POV. I went into the hide at 4.30am during the hours of darkness, as soon as the sun showed the Ospreys started feeding. I got four dives by different birds, the only problem was being in a sunken hide the birds showed at the last second, before they struck the fish. So I had to be aware all the time and get locked on focus quickly. I managed this and got lots of different frames, which I was more than happy with.

Wonderful timing on this one. Love the action, droplets and environment. Only very minor nit is I wish the head wasn't entirely against far wing. Nice and sharp from wingtip to wingtip. TFS

    William:

Sharp, well exposed, great full down pose, slight bang towards use, all good. Fish, drops nice as well. I do appreciate the head against the wing issue. It can be a tough one at times to get the the wings in the best pose without the head overlapping.

Looks forward to your further posts. Are there rules for the use of this blind about being there before sunrise, or was this personal choice?

I like the pose, a lot. I would, however, be tempted to burn the bill and the brown feathers on the face and neck - this could help make the face less "lost" against that wing. Sounds like a pretty neat place to photograph Ospreys!

Hi Randy....That's the rule..In the hide for 0430...Time you get settled in etc, light starts to show quickly and that is when the first birds start feeding.

This is excellent Will! Love the wing position, the sharpness anf the fish in the talons.
I do not mind the head against the wing.
I would clone out the wingtip reflection at the bottom of the frame, if mine .
Would love this in my portfolio!

Will congrats. A wonderful flight shot, and the wings man... sweet!

For me, the fish and the pose overcome any other shortcomings.

Look forward to seeing the others!

Spot on. Nice downstroke. The green water is nice. The light was nice as well.
