What a work of art it is! This was photographed 5 days after the image I posted previously, and she was already sitting on four eggs. I have not had the chance to go back, and it is past the length of time it takes to incubate and have the young fledge for this species, so I will never know the ending of the story. Very low light, despite being 10:15AM here - note the removed TC and raised ISO, plus the camera and lens were braced on top of my car's roof with some beach towels underneath (I was lucky I could photograph this nest from the road), plus liveview used with 2-second timer...so...NOT handheld!

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/100s., f/4, ISO 3200, natural light, FF, a couple of distracting highlights removed or toned down from the BG, NR to the BG and tail.

    Daniel:

An amazing build in such a short time. The crop works well with the nest shape. Image quality held up well under these challenging conditions.

    Cheers

Just a joy to see an image like this. You did well with the low light, but the unobstructed view of that crazy nest is fantastic.

Hi Dan, pretty neat, I never have seen one of their nests before. As always you got the most out of the image. Thank you for sharing.

Such a cool view of the nest. I would ave loved to see a slightly higher angle to show more of the bird, but it looks like that would have been impossible without an unethical, in-field branch trim. You found a nice
window as is, and I think the nest alone makes this a unique keeper!

I think this is the closet you have ever gotten to using a tripod. The nest is really cool. Good thinking on the vertical framing.
