This is a bird I have photographed on several occasions identifiable my the chunks missing from his wattles(eyebrows) I had discovered where his territory is and he nearly always showed. For this shot I used a camnet and got into position early on...He arrived shortly afterwards and came quite close...This is about 50% crop. Captured during the breeding season when he was looking his best. Handheld. ACR and PS2020.

Superb Will, I just love the image quality and the rich colors complimented by the BG. Details everywhere, and the wattles are wonderful. This is guy is "elvis" in his kingdom. Superb.

Will, so much to enjoy here... Thank you for pointing out the little biological differences you noticed, definitely adds to the story!

As Ann said, beautiful colors and I love the clarity in the eye reflection as well.

Only tiny suggestion I could give is a touch of cloning stamp on the perimeter of the upper beak as there's a touch of either color noise or halo esp on the larger monitor. Hate even suggesting, it's so nice.

    TFS!

Wow! What a shot. The BG so good, the detail in the head and eyes, everything so good. Yes, it pays great dividends to know your "quarry" and be prepared properly so that when he does show up in his known spot, you can get shot like this.

    What a handsome dude!
Love the IQ and the DOF with wonderful details.
I would not have noticed the issue around the tip of upper beak had Brian not pointed it out. Easy fix.
    Great portrait!
