    Default Roseate Spoonbill Feeding...

    Attached Images Attached Images

I captured this image at Circle B Bar Reserve in Polk County, Florida. When there is a dry/drought in the winter and spring the ponds dry up at Circle B. The water level drops and the small fish and crustaceans are trapped into pools that get smaller and smaller. Somehow the wading birds know, they are attracted like magnets to iron. I have only seen it a few times in the years I have been photographing at Circle B. Isolating a single bird is a challenge to overcome there are so many birds. Comments and critique welcome and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Hi Paul, thank you for viewing and commenting. When young the spoonbills here are very similar to yours in Australia. It is a diet of crustaceans and invertebrates that contain carotene that colors the feathers. Thanks again for viewing.

Nice feeding pose and subject orientation.

    Too saturated for my liking.

Great pose. Colors pop off the screen; you were there -- did it really seem this saturated? ( know those Florida colors can be pretty intense.) Yes to some CCW rotation, judging from the ripple and the reflected eye.

Hi Krishna, thank you for viewing and commenting, I think what your are seeing regarding saturation is the difference in our monitors/displays and maybe how they are calibrated. The image looks colorful but not overly saturated on my screen. Arash commented on the image after your post and he did not mention that it was too saturated.

Hi Arash, thank you for viewing and commenting. It was not really possible to get much lower. The trails at Circle B are on top of gravel dikes. I was sitting on the ground to get as low as possible. Also in Florida one has to be wary of being at the water's edge because most ponds have at least one alligator and I am too old to move very fast.

Hi Bill, thank you for viewing and commenting. I think the image is very close to how it was, clear blue sky reflecting on the water and a couple hours after sunrise pretty bright light.
