I captured this image of a captive but free swimming Australian Black Swan at Lake Morton in Lakeland, Florida. I have posted this image a long time ago but today worked it up from the beginning with the original image. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

    Joe:

The texture of the feathers on the black swan is one of their neatest features, and I feel you have captured that very well. Fly is a plus, cute title.

I would be curious to see the original to see how much you had to work with re: crop. Even a little more on the left would help IMO.

    Cheers

Hi Randy, thank you for viewing and commenting. This is the original uncropped image. I think it would be easy to add canvas on the left side. The bird was sleeping on a concrete retaining wall at the waters edge.

The red eye and bill are great. A nice resting pose as well.

    Joe:

Thanks for posting the original. Even with the wall showing on the lower right, I prefer seeing the greater amount of the body, the sense of roundness, curves work better for me. The left side in the original has enough there to work for me. I might remove 10% of the free space above the bird.

I do like the slightly greater contrast in the original post.

Just personal taste re: the crop.

    Cheers

    Joe:

I prefer it over the original, a bit more room so to speak gives it a less dense look. But, truly into personal taste at this point. Hopefully a few others will chime in with their own take.

    Hi Joe,

I prefer the original post. Love the title and the resting eye open pose. Couldn't ask for more detail, including the fly. Beautiful shade of gray in the background.

Nice Subjects. I was happy to see this one last year when I visited Florida and photgraphed some birds in Lake Morton. Birds are very tame and approachable there.

My choice of crop would be to take some canvas on the right side and get eye off center.
