    Hi Paul,

Great lighting, composition and background on this one, as well as excellent detail and sharpness. I agree with Ian that the area of highlight on the water left of the bird serves to nicely balance the composition, and I like the way the curve of it mimics the curve of the bird's neck. It's good sometimes to have some detail in the background that identifies the environment, but what's particularly good here is that the area of BG detail is around the reflection highlight, whereas the BG behind the bird is mostly soft and subdued, focussing attention on the bird.

    Cheers, David

Hi David. Thanks so much for the kind feedback and analysis. I'm hoping to be able to travel to Hobart again in the not too distant future.

I like the details, IQ, sweet BG and composition. I see a line above and in front of the duck that can be easily blended in. Good image Paul.

Solid portrait of this wood duck. The head looks quite small. At least compared to the wood ducks over here. The framing and background are right on.

    Thank you Jim & John.
John: Yes, that's what I thought when I took the shot...but on checking the id it is a Wood Duck. I have others with bigger heads...lol
Jim: You've got a keen eye...I didn't really pick up on that!

Paul, very nice IQ and detail on this bird. Stunning water cues and colors as well. A super nice overall portrait!

It's wonderful to see a Wood Duck from across the pond.

Might be curious if the highlights are a touch hot, but sometimes deceiving when blended in with darker feathers.

    Well done sir!

Hi Brian. Thank you so much for the kind feedback. The highlights were actually brighter, but I toned them down a little..maybe they need more...easy to do. Cheers!

This is an excellent frame Paul!
Love the BG and that bit of blue on the LHS.
