Difficult angle and rough surf. Any suggestions appreciated.

Looks like a difficult situation with a high angle, surf and harsh light. Please note that this is a Red Phalarope in transition plumage.

Great find so near the shore. Maybe a bit more sharpening of the head and you could remove the sheen on the bill.

Nice to see this Ted. Not an easy capture from a boat!

The feature other than plumage that gives the bird away as a Red Phalarope (Grey Phalarope in UK) is the relatively stout, thick bill compared to its cousins.

This looks like a male, which is duller than the female. Phalaropes as many of you may know show what is called reversed sexual dimorphism- the female is larger and brighter coloured than the male. On what date was the image created Ted?- this will determine to a large degree further interpretation of the image.

This was shot May 23 from the jetty, at Shinnecock inlet.

I'd crop off a bit more from the top as the empty space above gives more emphasis on the tough angle.
